What We Do

Driven by a community of highly skilled, knowledgeable, and remarkably dedicated people Wheelchair Basketball Canada has grown into a world leader in a number of key administrative areas:

Domestic

Working in partnership with our member provinces and clubs, Wheelchair Basketball Canada hosts a Men’s and Women’s  [National Championships] , a National Club Championships, junior regional and Mini regional tournaments and provides leadership in co-ordinating a National league - the [Canadian Wheelchair Basketball League].

High Performance

Wheelchair Basketball Canada manages a [high performance program] that focuses on preparing the men’s, women’s, junior men and espoir women [National teams]  for international competition. The Centres for Performance program is an athlete talent identification and development program for potential elite-level athletes who show future National team potential. The program is designed to best prepare our future National team athletes in all aspects of elite development.

Technical

Wheelchair Basketball Canada offers  [coaching, officiating & classification]  programs and clinics on an annual basis and supports opportunities within Canada and internationally.
 

Hosting

Wheelchair Basketball Canada has developed an international hosting strategy that has seen Canada host the top teams in the world at the inaugural Junior Men’s World Championships in 2005, the Senior Men’s [Americas Cup] qualifier in 2009, and the inaugural [Women’s Under 25 World Championships] in 2011, and leading to the Women’s World Championships in 2014.
 

Member Services

There are educational and mentorship programs for coaches, officials, and classifiers. Wheelchair Basketball Canada provides leadership and support to our member provinces through several initiatives, including a grant program, an awards program, a Hall of Fame program, forums for sharing information, and communication services such as a comprehensive website and an e-newsletter.
