Daniel Bigu
Biography
Daniel Bigu had always dreamed of representing Canada on the national stage and after making a smooth transition from soccer to wheelchair basketball, this Kitchener native is excited to be realizing his dream.
Looking for an opportunity to stay active and to feed his competitive drive after his accident, Bigu quickly found his knack for wheelchair basketball, beginning training with the Canadian Men’s U23 camps after his first season with his local club team.
Just five years after being introduced to the sport, Bigu earned a spot on Ontario’s team for the 2015 Canada Games.
In addition to unfaltering determination and hard work, Bigu says he attributes his success to “having the chances to participate in many training camps and events have made my skills and talents progress to a point where coaches see potential in my abilities as a wheelchair basketball player.”
On the court Bigu is adept at opening the court for his team mates and creating man advantages, by picking, sealing and freeing up players.
Outside of basketball, Bigu is passionate about movies and music and enjoys attending music festivals.
